Description
Northumbria, 864 AD.
A land of duplicitous lords, daring invaders and desperate kings. A newly Christian land where old warlike gods still linger in the shadows, waiting to fill their halls with dead men.
The great Viking leader Ragnar Lothbrok invades the eastern coast of the Kingdom of Northumbria and his hordes move quickly across the land. King Aelle hangs onto his power by a thread. His dethroned brother, Osbhert, his Earldom intact, but his Kingship not forgotten, stands forever at his elbow, a looming shadow of an uncomfortable past, His Thegns and Captains seek victory, some at any cost, some for the right price.
In the midst of this land of war, fear and deceit we follow young farmhand, Ned, on his journey from captured Viking slave to reluctant Saxon warrior, as he discovers what he's capable of and what he truly wants from his life. We take in the landscape and history of Northumbria's ancient Kingdom as he meets new friends, new enemies, and all those grey characters that blur the line between the two.
