Refocuspublishing.com is a bookstore on a quest.
Our mission is to create gender balance in classic literature and decrease gender polarization. We do this by changing genders in works found in the public domain and Refocusing the story on the humanity of the characters instead of their gender. This enables everyone to consume these works with equal representation of genders in lead and supporting character roles.
Refocusing these classics allows for an immediate collection of stories focused on the human experience from the opposite-gendered perspective. Our daughters can connect with female characters being bold, strong, and passionate; our sons with characters who are kind, intelligent, and supportive.
Our greatest hope is that by opening enough eyes the stories we tell will stop perpetuating gender stereotypes, and the classics being written today will not need to be Refocused in the future.
