Description
For any group to succeed, there must be proper leadership. This is also true for the church. When it comes to church leadership, however, we don't have to trust in human models or our own ingenuity. The Lord has provided His church a plan for leadership, and that plan involves a group of men known variously as elders, overseers, or shepherds. But which men can fill this role? Once again, we are not left alone to decide. In 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1, the Bible contains Spirit-inspired qualifications to help the church identify men who can perform the function of a church elder. This double-issue of The Christian's Expositor is devoted to these qualifications, and contains several articles written by men, most of whom have either served as elders or helped congregations develop and appoint elders.
