Description
Following a painful divorce, Melody Rimes returns to her childhood village, where she opens a new bookshop and enlists the help of a local author to help promote it.
Stuart Bagley is an arrogant oaf with a list of enemies as long his best-selling catalogue, but he has agreed to give a talk in the shop which will draw a good crowd and create positive publicity for Melody's new venture.
But then disaster strikes when he collapses and dies after someone spikes his drink during the show, and suddenly the bookstore becomes a crime-scene, drawing the kind of publicity Melody could do without.
There is a raft of suspects, including Melody's own daughter, which Detective Hollins (who relies on instinct rather than facts to draw his conclusions) is casting his spurious eye over.
But Melody knows an idiot when she sees one, and expects Detective Hollins's techniques will likely lead to the arrest of an innocent person, just so he can bring the case to a quick and conclusive finale.
So Melody, along with her moody teenage daughter, best friend Lin, and her cuddly but down-trodden husband Sam, set off to play amateur sleuths and unmask the murderer themselves.
Then, just as Melody thinks she is getting close to solving the crime, a second body is discovered...
Can Melody unravel the mystery before Detective Hollins puts an innocent person behind bars?
Can you, dear reader, solve the Murder of a Mighty Wordsmith?
A cozy mystery, set in an English village with a cast of wonderful eccentric characters- perfect for lovers of Agatha Christie, Richard Osman and Ian Moore.
