In December 1978 DI Diane Rothwell and DS Spencer Spooner are investigating a series of robberies when they are trapped by snow drifts in the village of Bleckley. They are forced to spend the night in The Three Tuns, one of the most isolated pubs in the Peak District.
In the bar that night, locals tell them about several people who have either been killed or have disappeared during the past sixteen years. Some of them believe the Beast of Bleckley is responsible, a wolf that escaped whilst being transported to Riber Zoo in Matlock back in 1963.
Diane is not convinced. Instead, she believes one of the locals might be responsible. But who could it be? Bleckley is a small hamlet with only fifteen people living there. Could one of the people trapped with them in the pub be a serial killer?
