The story tells of a young couple living in Capital City. A husband is fired from his job and embarks on various businesses, but all fail. He starts a new business with a business partner, but this soon reaches a dead end. One day he asks the wife, "Can I borrow your hands?" She replies that she is happy to give her hands, but a terrible fate awaits her.
The Buried Secret
During the feudal period, the mayor of a rural village sends his beautiful daughter, Osono, to the ancient capital, Koto, for four years to train as a bride. After returning from the brilliant capital city, she comes back to her hometown as a sophisticated woman. The father finds a son-in-law, and Osono marries a rich man in a neighboring town. A child is born and Osono becomes a happy mother, but four years later, she suddenly dies during an epidemic. The family is overcome with sorrow, but for seven straight days the ghost of Osono comes to the house. The priest of the Bodhi Temple is asked to solve the problem, and he learns Osono's secret.
The Frightened Clerk
Norio is a talented and rising painter, but he is poor due to his complicated family background. After Kaori, a lawyer, becomes his lover, he sets up an atelier in a suburb of Capital City, and has a stable life. However, the relationship with Kaori deteriorates, and one day he kills her in a rage about a trivial matter. Norio buries Kaori deep in the ground in a place no one knows. He thinks it is the perfect crime unless her body is uncovered. He goes to a nearby convenience store to purchase some food and finds out the truth.
