Piraten, Freibeuter, Buccaniere - sie schäumten die Meere und tun es wohl auch immer noch, wenn auch die heutigen Vertreter dieses Seewerks nicht so sehr unseren Sinn für Romantik und Abenteuer erregen, wie es etwa Klaus Störtebeker und Konsorten taten und tun.

Doch wer meint, dass die Seeräuberei eine rein männliche Domäne , irrt, es gab einige sehr erfolgreiche Frauen in diesem Beruf, wie etwa Grace O'Malley. Ihr irischer Landsmann David Slattery geht sogar so weit zu erklären, seiner Meinung nach sei die Piraterie ein Frauenberuf. Weshalb er uns in seiner Geschichte mit einer Piratenkönigin bekannt macht, und sie ist wahrlich nicht die einzige in unserer Sammlung.

In dieser Anthologie finden sich sowohl Geschichten, die der klassischen Vorstellung der Seeräuberei entsprechen, als auch solche, die von Piratinnen und Piraten im übertragenen Sinne handeln.
