A response to Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine: Kyiv, September 1941. Vira is an actress in the National Puppet Theatre but the city has been destroyed by German artillery shells and explosives placed by fleeing Russian saboteurs. On her way home from the market she sees a poster on the wall of a post office. It is an edict commanding all Jews of Kyiv to report at the old cemetery on the city's outskirts. The Jews of Kyiv expect to be deported to who knows where, only to find that a fate far grimmer than they can have possibly imagined awaits them.
