Alex Johns is a burned-out Philadelphia psychologist who wants to accomplish something in his life. God knows, he certainly isn't feeling a sense of accomplishment as he sees client after client fail in therapy.

Then, a friend of Alex's dies in an arson. And one of Alex's clients makes a statement during therapy that leads Alex to believe that the client knows something about his friend's death.
