Imagine that you get choose the squad that will represent your nation for the upcoming Women's World Cup. Whom would you choose? How would you make your choices? Would it be based on athleticism? A players soccer skill and ability? Or, would you make decisions based on the intangibles? Things like character, personality, and the like?
Five Women You Meet in Faith and Football introduces the reader to five very special women whose stories and lives appear in the Bible. Each one has unique characteristics and personality traits. Each of them faced unique challenges and somewhat overwhelming odds, in their lives. By the power of God and with each one's different strengths, they turned difficulty and adversity into something amazing.
The Five Women You Meet in Faith and Football devotional features daily (5) readings over the course of 5 weeks as a parallel to the 2023 Women's World Cup.
Each week starts out with a light-hearted Scouting Report which imagines a scout observing the woman as a potential player for a new team. This is followed on by a Match Day section which crafts a summary story that one might find in a match day program as well as some special notes or things to pay attention to on certain days.
Each daily reading features a different characteristic or attribute that we see in each woman and their story. It could be a personal attribute like bravery or it could be a feature of their life story that is expressed in the scripture reading.
Each daily reading is followed with space to reflect on some questions out of the text and with an attempt to parallel your own life situation. Whether you are a footballing athlete, coach, support staff, or around the Beautiful Game in some other way, the questions are designed to engage you and the biblical text in a deeper, more meaningful way.
The Five Women You Meet in Faith and Football can be read individually or might be great for a small group or team to work through during a particular time of the year or season.
