Description

'Hanson is an intriguing character, adept at reading human behaviour, in a series that shows the police in a very modern light.' The Sunday Times

MEET DR KATE HANSON. SHE'S A FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGIST WHO GETS INTO THE MINDS OF THE WORST KILLERS IMAGINABLE.

Please note this book was previously published as Gone in Seconds.

For five years, the remains of a young woman lie undisturbed in dark woodland on the outskirts of Birmingham. The gold necklace round her neck reads 'Molly'.

Now, watching the post-mortem, forensic psychologist Kate Hanson knows in a heartbeat that she's looking at Molly Elizabeth James. She was only eighteen when she disappeared from a shopping centre in Solihull.

DCI Bernie Watts' team unearths more long-buried bodies in the area. Kate realises they're dealing with a serial killer. One who abducted young women, torturing them for days before finally killing them.

It's up to Kate to work out why. She must dive deep into the twisted mind of the killer to anticipate their next move.

Then another young woman's body is found. It's a fresh kill. Same MO.

This cold case just got hot.

A THRILLING CRIME MYSTERY THAT WILL HAVE YOU HOOKED FROM THE FIRST PAGE.

This fast-paced, twisty cold case mystery is perfect for fans of Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, Karin Slaughter, Angela Marsons, Mel Sherratt and Helen H. Durrant.

THE DETECTIVE
Kate Hanson works with Birmingham's Unsolved Crimes Unit. The UCU tackles the hardest cases -- where the evidence is ten years old and there are no leads. Kate wants justice for victims who everyone else has long given up on. Since getting divorced two years ago when her husband cheated on her, she's the primary carer for their ten-year-old daughter Maisie.

Local Brummie boy done good DCI Bernie Watts heads up the Cold Case team. In many ways, he's the polar opposite of Kate, and sometimes finds her uptight ways difficult. But what unites them is their dedication to cracking the most complex cases to put the very worst killers behind bars.

THE SETTING
Birmingham is an incredibly diverse city, from high-rise business districts with well-heeled and occasionally shady residents to poorer neighbourhoods that gentrification forgot. This mix throws up all kinds of criminals for Kate to investigate.

THE AUTHOR
Like her main character Dr Kate Hanson, A.J. Cross is a forensic psychologist, who draws on her professional knowledge from twenty years' experience to create shockingly realistic villains.
