Lilian Farrier is an artist. Yet as an uneducated, unmarried woman living in Victorian England, she doubts that she would ever be taken seriously by the art world. The women's four interconnected stories explore their challenges, dreams and triumphs. Each is thwarted by the social expectations imposed upon them, yet each ultimately finds a way to thrive, thanks to the sanctuary of Hawthorn Cottage and to one woman's far-reaching artistic legacy.
