In a time before time, a momentous battle between good and evil raged across the heavens. Struck down, the author of chaos fell like lightning to the earth bent on nothing but vengeance. For millennia, his followers openly sowed the seeds of confusion, doubt, and disbelief, desiring to lead all of humanity astray. Yet, an even more sinister plan grows in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to step from the darkness and snuff out the light.

The Almighty, however, has not left his creation without weapons. A secret group, known as the Empyreum, stand in the gap, pushing back against the forces of darkness and chaos. Led by the archangels, Michael and Gabriel, they are tasked with detecting, confronting, and collecting all nephilim (the offspring of demon-human unions) and their genitors - code-named The Umbora. The Empyreum have fulfilled this task to near perfection since before the birth of the Babylonian Empire. But when Michael's adopted daughter, Dexa, saves the life of a broken and bitter, yet supernaturally gifted, nephilim teen named DJ, everything changes.

Whispers tell of an infant from unknown origins who may be key to the dark one's plans. Michael seizes DJ to seek answers, a move the teen's father, the archdemon Swarm, cannot let stand. Soon seeking answers from DJ turns to shielding him as they journey from the flowing countryside of Idaho to the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, from a brisk river valley in Sweden to the ancient ruins of Pergamon.

As both light and dark vie for possession of the infant, will Michael be able to ensure the safety of his young daughter and bring peace to DJ's damaged heart? Will DJ use his burgeoning powers for the light, or will his father lure him back into the shadows? And will the agonizing sacrifices that must be made along the way be worth it in the end?
