"I already knew Cohn could write well-crafted stories, and this was no exception. Great characters, an original concept with excellent execution, and compelling storytelling. I particularly enjoyed the was that the author uses first person POV interspersed with the narrative from Tom's book telling the old story. It was very well done and very seamless. "Holiday horror is one of my favorite subgenres and Everything is Temporary by Jon Cohn is now solidly canon. Cohn blends nostalgia with mystery, terror, and a shocking story of grief, and then peppers in dozens of past holiday film/book references that brings the novel to sparkly life. Our main protagonist, Tom Barnes, flip-flops from victim to potential villain so smoothly I honestly found myself wondering what the outcome would be. I loved the inventive Christmas characters, particularly one named Evergreen, and a new version of Mrs. Claus that I'll be thinking about for seasons to come.
If you liked Joe Hill's NOS4A2, Stephen King's IT, and A Christmas Story (you'll shoot your eye out) you'll love this yuletide tale of childhood fears, overcoming grief, and reconciling a haunted past."
