"Holiday horror is one of my favorite subgenres and Everything is Temporary by Jon Cohn is now solidly canon. Cohn blends nostalgia with mystery, terror, and a shocking story of grief, and then peppers in dozens of past holiday film/book references that brings the novel to sparkly life. Our main protagonist, Tom Barnes, flip-flops from victim to potential villain so smoothly I honestly found myself wondering what the outcome would be. I loved the inventive Christmas characters, particularly one named Evergreen, and a new version of Mrs. Claus that I'll be thinking about for seasons to come.
