When Neely stumbles across the derelict remnants of a once beautiful 1895 farmhouse, she finds nothing inside worth noting except what remains of a built-in wardrobe. Inside, she finds a brittle envelope and letter dated 1907, nominating the 1883 Mountain Lodge Hotel for a listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This isn't real... the Register didn't exist in 1907!

Intrigued, she researches old newspaper archives and locates a 1907 advertisement describing The Mountain Lodge Hotel as One of the Finest Mineral Resorts in the South. An article reports a young woman's disappearance and murder near the old hotel and an arrest.

When Neely obtains directions to the hotel, what she finds is a neglected ruin hidden within the vast wilderness of ancient trees and thick overgrowth. But as she walks the grounds and snaps pictures for documentation, she feels an eerie sense of ghostly activity coming from the building and grounds.

Almost obsessed with the hotel, Neely later returns to the site with her architect friend Josh Carraway. Hesitantly, they enter the hotel building and discover an architectural masterpiece. When they hear strange crashing sounds coming from an abandoned guestroom, they rush to leave the property but soon find that their original path from the road has become a time portal. Neely and Josh have been transported back to the thriving Mountain Lodge Hotel in all its splendid glory.
