Valerie Hart was never one for going out of her comfort zone.
As a waitress working in the city, she spends most of her days managing a small diner while living with her best friend. Until, one day, her friend goes missing without a trace. Valerie quickly realizes that she is the only one who can find out what happened to her and she makes it her mission to track down her last movements.
But instead of finding answers, Valerie discovers that her best friend had unknowingly uncovered a cursed book that had the power to wreak havoc upon the world and now with her missing, Valerie is the only one who can read it.
Valerie is plunged into a world of dark magic where a secret organization maintains the threads of the world and where their enemies want to tear everything down. Fortunately for her, the Guild welcomes her with open arms and offers protection against those who wish to use the book for wrongdoing.
With a target on her back, Valerie must not only find her friend, but she must test the boundaries of the world and hope that she can safely walk away at the end of it all.
Unbeknownst to her, though, the Book of the Cursed doesn't let go of someone that easily.
Everything -- including knowledge -- has a cost.
