Description
Lyra Ward has decided to travel to her country's capital to participate in the royal wizard apprenticeship program. When she is partnered with the icy Viek Crowley, her whole world turns upside down. Between politics amongst apprentices and trying to keep her best friend happy, Lyra finds that being a wizard apprentice may not be all that it's cracked up to be.
At that moment, as she was scanning the knights worrying about who she might get assigned to, she found one still figure. A man stood on the outskirts of the group, staring in and watching the fraternizing with a bored expression on his face. From this distance she could see the dark hair pulled back out of his face with a simple tie, a large scar left from a blade long ago on the left side of his face, and a dusting of black facial hair. She would've assumed he was in a similar boat to her except that he gave off no nervousness or shyness. As she stared, another knight approached him. The woman had short auburn hair, lips the color of roses, and porcelain skin that didn't seem suited for a knight. Lyra watched as she approached him, a bright smile on her face, extending a gloved hand in greeting. The woman gave him a few words, and the man simply nodded, not returning the handshake. After a beat, when the woman found that she wasn't getting anywhere with him, she just nodded and stalked back into the crowd. The man's eyes followed her for a brief moment, and then they flashed up to Lyra.
