Description
Bertie has no idea where following the tracks will lead him.
When Bertie Matthews receives a pair of binoculars for his twelfth birthday, he soon discovers that they are useful for more than just stargazing; he can also use them to see into the back windows of the grand houses across the train tracks that run along the bottom of his garden. Gazing out into the night, Bertie becomes fascinated by the mysterious behaviour of the lady he watches in the house at the end of the terrace; a lady who dresses like she is on a 1930s film set, who talks animatedly to herself, and who never leaves her attic room. Convinced that he has stumbled upon a secret, Bertie embarks upon a solo detective mission to solve The Mystery of the 1930s Lady.
Yet as Bertie's detective narrative unfolds, a far darker story emerges from the gaps and cracks in his account; a story of lies, of fear and of misunderstanding. Bertie must untangle the threads to reveal the truth, but will his own small world unravel in the process?
