Description

Life has always been good on the banks of the River Nile. To the ancient Egyptians, Ta Meri or the Beloved Land was the epitome of culture and civilisation. This was where they wanted to live, and this was where they wanted to be buried. In order to achieve this goal, one was prepared to do almost anything. But read for yourselves!

• In Sinuhe's Return, the protagonist of the well-known ancient Egyptian tale wonders whether it is safe for him to follow his master's call to return home after spending half a lifetime in foreign parts. Could it be that King Senusret is secretly plotting revenge, even though the terrible event that drove Sinuhe from his homeland happened decades ago?

• The Miracle of Ipet-Sut is about the desperate attempt of Amun's high priestess, Nitiqret, to make a virtue out of her plight. She resolutely takes action, but the reigning god's wife Ankhnesneferibre seems just as determined to thwart her bold plans.

• In A Rare Find, the Mitanni princess Tadukhepa arrives at the royal court as Pharaoh Amunhotep's bride following tough negotiations. She has no idea of the embarrassing affliction that has befallen her husband, and Queen Tiye does everything in her power to keep it that way - using any means necessary.

• Hathor's Song tells the story of dreamy Merineith and indolent Ipek, who is trying to shirk his duty to help build King Khufu's pyramid. Their paths cross in a wondrous way, but only briefly. Or has Hathor more for them in store?

• The Mystery Scroll features a physician named Senmut who some readers will be acquainted with from the two-part novel "The Saviour of the Two Lands". When in the seventh year of King Tutankhamun's reign a papyrus featuring a bizarre drawing surfaces, nobody thinks much of it at first - including Senmut and his son Rahotep. The drawing doesn't make any sense yet seems to be innocuous enough - but is it?
