Description
Can a Mountain Man Leave the Mountains and Become a Farmer?
After the collapse of the beaver pelt trade, John Hess -- former Mountain man -- settles down on 40 acres of prime frontier land. Alongside his resourceful wife, Crystal, and their raucous pack of kid's, John teaches himself how to till the soil and produce his first crops. John's plan is simple, raise enough food for his family and sell the remainder to other settlers, or to the never ending migration of greenhorns moving West by wagon train.
Before too long, John realizes he is ill-equipped to handle the struggles of his new venture. Harsh weather and Indian unrest threaten not only the safety of his home, but also the success of his meager harvest. While, John works diligently to bring the untamed land under his cultivation, a catastrophic accident soon threatens his life. The lasting effects of his devastating injury places his whole family's survival in jeopardy.
Luckily, John can depend on two people, his teen-aged son Amos and fellow Mountain Man, Ty. While Amos steps up to fill the role of farmer and family caretaker, Ty offers guidance and support. Faced with an unquestionable setback, John must reinvent himself again, this time as an Army Scout.
It's a struggle to keep the farm going, the family must constantly defend the homestead from attack and misadventure. While being a mountain man was never easy, John must tap new reservoirs of determination, and faith, if he hopes to provide for his family while battling the ever-changing demands of the Western frontier he calls home.
