Penelope is a busy young woman in her late twenties who runs a business selling Christmas poinsettias. Each Christmas season there is a large demand for them, and she quickly discovers she's beginning to drown in orders. Her lifelong friend, Cathy, stops by her shop and offers to help, while worrying that Penelope will become an old maid if she doesn't make the time to find a husband. Penelope happily agrees to accept Cathy's help.

Penelope lives close to her business and likes to walk to and from work during the wintertime in order to avoid the slippery icy roads. On her way home one evening, she discovers a handsome man who is stranded along the side of the road with a flat tire. She tells him she doesn't live far from where he's stranded and can use her home phone if he wants to walk with her. He takes her up on her offer and they slowly begin to get to know each other. He discovers she has a business of selling Christmas poinsettias and she learns that he is a doctor. Each are secretly attracted to the other; but neither has a lot of time to do anything about it.
