Description
In the summer of 1980, Dr. Carla La Rosa, MD, a successful NYC psychiatrist, inherits a ranch from her renegade cowboy uncle in Beansnort, Tennessee, of all places. There's just one catch -- Carla has to live there for a year before she can sell up. With her two best Manhattan buddies, she aims to make a quick road trip, there and back, to negotiate it down to a month.
Talk about a fish out of water! Dr. Carla is used to New Yorkers shoveling something. Turns out the small town, simple, earthy farm workers shovel the real thing. Her family history and the town are linked in ways she had no idea. And oh, she happens to trip over a dead body on the ranch which makes her a prime murder suspect.
Trapped in this small town, Carla and her friends have a crash course in lessons of all kinds... life, birth, death, dodgy real estate dealings, and social injustices they thought were swept away during their youth in the turbulent '60s. She grew up in NYC studying ballet and dancing on her toes. In Beansnort, she's walking on eggshells. Just what was her uncle thinking when he bequeathed this hornet's nest to her?
Can Dr. Carla escape this small town clutching at her soul as well as avoid prison time for a murder she didn't commit? Is it possible that the danger and chaos all around are the very things that bring clarity and resolution?
Not to mention, can a freshly baked Southern biscuit replace the inimitable New York bagel?
