Description
Erewhon: or, Over the Range is a novel by English writer Samuel Butler, first published anonymously in 1872, set in a fictional country discovered and explored by the protagonist. The novel is a veiled satire of Victorian society, framed as an adventure novel, where the protagonist discovers a new, fictional land -- Erewhon (intended to be an anagram of Nowhere) -- that are first encounter appears to be a utopia but is soon discovered to be much more complex. Erewhonis notable not only as a very popular and influential book in its own era by one of the greatest English language novelists of his generation, but also as one of the first novels to engage with the idea of artificial intelligence and evolutionary machine learning -- a remarkably ahead of its time.
