Description
Walter knew he was BORN TO FLY as soon as he could walk. He grew up in a traditional Afrikaner community, and during national service, he was accepted for pilot training and transferred to the South African Air Force. Initially training on AT-6 Harvards, he flew Impala MK Is (Aermacchi MB-326), C47 Dakotas, C160 Transalls and C130 Hercules. He flew in the Border War, including flights into Angola, and flew personnel and equipment out for the recovery and investigation of the Helderberg disaster and was similarly involved with the air accident in which Moçambique President Samora Machel was killed. After the Border War, he flew for `WonderAir' before joining SAA, for which he flew the A300, B747 Classic Jumbo Jet,747-400 and the A319s, locally and internationally. This book ends with Walter deciding to leave South African Airways and work for an air company operating out of China.
