Description

Eighteen Wheels is a dark horror fiction of a careful, methodical serial killer (Shane Carver), who preys on his innocent victims along interstate forty, between Western Texas and California beginning in the early two thousands. It is also a psychological thriller and suspense novel depicting some of the victims and other characters being pursued, sometimes escaping; sometimes not. Finally it's a Mystery and Crime story involving Marylyn (escaped victim), a private investigator (Paul Keller), and an FBI agent (Carl Yanz). The three of them are challenged morally and legally in choices that they make in an attempt to identify the serial killer and then put a stop to his killings.

Following is a sample excerpt of the book:

Chapter 1 - Just Another Day (Part 1)

June 5, 2015: Shane Carver (He) doesn't know why he does some of the things he does or what triggers them. But he thinks about it often, and this is what he does know.

• He didn't plan it the first time. It literally just dropped into his lap.

• He never fully plans it. That's an important part of the experience.

• He loves the Rush. Nothing else compares.

• If he doesn't control himself, he will be controlled.

• And he doesn't want to be controlled. Ever! - He does the controlling.

Perched behind the steering wheel in the cab of his Kenworth T600 Semi Truck, smoking a cigarette; he watches Interstate 40 -- the Main Street of America -- run under his wheels. He's traveled back and forth along this section of highway between California and Texas hundreds of times in the last twelve years. Driving this same route for all this time is monotonous, like brushing your teeth every day, but he doesn't tire of it; it suits him.

He is single with no family (an orphan), and though he has what he calls trail mates, he has no true friends, no pets, and doesn't tolerate stress well. He has learned that he and everyone else fare better when he merely watches the world go by than when he engages with it. So, yeah, this way of life suits him fine.

Bob Seger's 'Turn the Page' plays on the radio as he takes a drink of water from his forty two ounce YETI cup.
He left San Diego with an empty load this morning at about 8AM. He's on the second day of a two-day trip back to Amarillo. It's a pretty easy run, and he never has to rush. Sometimes, like today, his mind drifts back to before the first killing -- before he became addicted.

First Memories
The first memory he has, which he is sure is real, is of being with his actual mother and father. He knows he was four years old because the Petition for the Transfer of Custody for the adoption papers that he has seen is dated September 9, 1985. He would have turned four years old about a month before that. He remembers a woman, he's sure it was his mom, holding him and talking lovingly to him -- or she could have been reading to him in a sunny room of a home he has no other memory of. She had a thin face and stringy hair, but in her eyes was love.

He hears a loud male voice in an adjoining room complaining about something. In a short while, as he recalls, an unshaven man wearing jeans and a wife-beater T-shirt bursts into the room, destroying the calm moment. He starts yelling at the woman. The man strikes the woman, and (he) is dropped onto the couch, but then tumbles onto the floor. Everything spins, and his vision and hearing become unclear. That's the end of the memory -- the only recollection he has of his true parents.

YOU'LL HAVE TO BUY THE BOOK TO READ THE REST OF THE STORY. THIS BOOK GRABS YOUR ATTENTION EARLY AND KEEPS IT ALL THE WAY TO THE END. I HOPE YOU HAVE AS MUCH FUN READING IT AS I DID WRITING IT... JEFF jONES
