Lady Serena Brockworth, darling of the ton has a secret. Actually she has several secrets, but it is her involvement in secretly producing a Lady's Magazine, 'La Dernier Cri', which has the potential to get her into serious trouble if her partcipation in its production is ever revealed. She and her friends, Millie and Fliss, started the magazine as an experiment to see if they could raise sufficient funds to keep their favoured charity ; Lady Mary's School for Girls, running, after its founder, Lady Mary unexpectedly died. Their involvement also helps to relieve the boredom of their fourth year of being on the Marriage Mart.
