As Liv temporarily adopts the traumatized canine, she discovers Douglas was about to donate valuable land to expand the shelter. But with Douglas dead and his property in limbo, greedy developers and corrupt officials circle like vultures.

When the evidence leads to the town's most powerful citizens, Liv realizes she might be next on the killer's list. With help from her shelter assistant, a gossipy elderly volunteer, a handsome sheriff, and one very perceptive poodle, Liv must solve the murder before the killer strikes again.
