Description
Ayman Abu Soobuch was born in 1977 in Khan Yunis, Gaza Strip, the third child of a Palestinian Muslim family. Living near figures like Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, and Yahya Ayyash, Ayman's upbringing was saturated with the doctrines of hatred and vengeance, presented as the very essence of Palestinian identity. Yet, a single, transformative moment altered his destiny: as a young boy, he saw a Jewish soldier putting on tefillin. In that instant, Ayman knew he belonged to the Jewish people. He was a Jewish soul, mistakenly born into a world consumed by terror.
In his gripping story, he details his harrowing and painful odyssey -- a life marked by violence, persecution, social exclusion, constant threats, and deep humiliation. He recounts being turned over to the Palestinian Authority, the unspeakable torture he endured in a Gaza prison, and his relentless battle in Israel against unsympathetic police, exploitative employers, and the rigid conversion bureaucracy.
Ayman, now known as Dor, refused to surrender: "I am Jewish to my core. I was born a Jew, and I will die a proud Jew."
This is the story of an innocent, sensitive child who dreamed of becoming a doctor, only to be engulfed by the brutal reality of baseless hatred and violence from birth. His journey, fueled by an unyielding hope, taught him that true miracles can happen, that kindness can be found in unexpected places, and instilled in him the power of determination, profound faith, and ultimately, the freedom to choose:
Life, not death;
Love, not hatred;
Light, not darkness.
Today, Dor travels the world, advocating for Israel (a practice known as "hasbara"), sharing his unique story, and spreading the message embedded in his name:
Dor Shachar - a generation of love, the dawn of a new day.
