Description
First published in 1920, A Voyage to Arcturus is a strikingly original fantasy that has lost none of its ability to surprise in the last hundred years. Anglo-Scottish author David Lindsay's best known book, it follows a mysterious protagonist, Maskull, on his journey from a drawing room séance to Arcturus, a double star system peopled with unique characters and landscapes. Maskull finds himself changing -- literally, mutating -- with each encounter, as his understanding of reality slowly erodes. Though it sold only 596 copies on its publication, A Voyage to Arcturus grew in reputation over the latter half of the 20th century, counting C.S. Lewis, Clive Barker, Harold Bloom, Alan Moore and J.R.R. Tolkein among its admirers. A work of incredible imagination, it is acknowledged today as a landmark of speculative fiction.
