Description
'Hilarious, but also poignant and thought-provoking.' Bold New Horizons follows the contrasting diaries of its two main characters, charting the touching and comedic highs and lows, clashes and connections as they, along with an oddball supporting cast, stumble into an uncertain future.
It's September 1993, and Tracey Button, a 21-year-old single mother living in a damp and depressing council flat, yearns to build a better life for her young family. Deeply uncertain of her abilities and with no qualifications or work experience to draw upon, she enrols on a course at the local further education college and starts a diary to assist her progress.
Her journal presents a starkly different narrative to that of the new college principal, Clive Eastwood, who has joined the downmarket institution from the rarefied atmosphere of a 'new' university. Clive firmly believes he has the talent and drive to propel this lacklustre establishment into a new golden age, and he begins a daily record of his experiences that he anticipates will provide source material for a reputation-enhancing book.
Perhaps his expectations are about to be tested.
