Description
Men break into the ruins of the Marshalsea Prison searching for something they cannot name.
While still a university student, Sherlock Holmes is asked to investigate a series of strange intrusions at the long-abandoned debtor's prison.
Floors are torn up, walls broken apart -- yet nothing is found.
All that remains is a rumour, traced back to a dismissed warder and a cryptic phrase repeated at the end of his life:
Words being guineas.
An early case from the student years of Sherlock Holmes.
