Description
In the year 1850, the eminent Maximilian Armstrong -- a gentleman distinguished by his command of anatomy and chemistry -- finds himself engaged in the examination of a most unusual report: the apparition of what witnesses insist resembles a diver's ghost, saying to chosen listeners the mysterious phrase, "Write it down." Ghosts, of course, being the province of superstition rather than reason, Armstrong is convinced that some far more intriguing explanation must exist.
He is joined in this enquiry by his trusted friend, Antonio Lascimmia, an accomplished engineer, mathematician, and man of science. Together, armed with intellect and an unwavering faith in rational enquiry, they are determined to uncover the truth behind this unsettling phenomenon.
Yet this is not the sole mystery to trouble the age. Elsewhere, the illustrious Lady Jane Sky-Captain, commander of her own opulent airship, alongside Astrid Falkestrøm, a pilot of remarkable skill and daring, pursues reports of a strange green shape observed traversing the skies with unnatural agility. Is it a marvel of advanced engineering, an atmospheric illusion, or something altogether more profound?
Are these enigmas entwined by some hidden principle, or are they merely separate curiosities? Within the refined confines of polite society, where reason must contend with wonder, these questions -- and many more -- await their careful unravelment.
• No foul language
• No 'amorous improprieties'
• Just a nice, heavily complicated story
• May contain mild peril
